Class 131 A scalp protector for use while permanently waving, tinting, or bleaching hair comprises two flat members 1, 2 of heatinsulating material such as rubber or plastic, each pivotally mounted on an arm 4, 5 of a resilient clip formed of metal wire bent or coiled at the junction 6, fastening means for the device being provided at the free ends of the arms. The arms constrained to opening in single plane by flattening of the wire at the junction 6 are received in hems, formed by gluing the folded over edges 3 of the members 1, 2, or in slots moulded in the members. In selective bleaching of the hair, locks to be treated are retained above the members 1, 2 while locks to be left untreated are held below the members by hair pins 16 passing through perforations 15.
