Abstract
801,045. Filters. GENERAL MOTORS CORPORATION. Oct. 4, 1956 [Oct 7, 1955], No. 30258/56. Class 46. [Also in Group XXVII]. A liquid filter 36 is adapted to be mounted on a support, such as an I.C. engine 10 (see Group XXVII), having a recess 32 in communication with an inlet passage 30 and outlet passage 34. The filter 36 comprises a casing 38, detachably secured to the support 10 by a rod 44, a filter cartidge 42 and a cap 40 having its upper face engaging an angular seat 64 of the recess and its lower face engaging the filter cartidge 42 and having a divisional wall 68 to separate the inlet chamber 58 and outlet chamber 72, and pots 80 to allow liquid to flow from the inlet 30 into the filter casing. The cartidge 42, which may comprise two perforated members 48 separated by suitable filtering material 50, is urged against the cap 40 by a spring on the rod 44. A relief valve 78 is provided in the cap 40 to by-pass the liquid when the filter becomes clogged.
