Class 20(4) A curtain wall or cladding for buildings comprises a series of horizontal ledge members 1 located within each space of the main framework of the building, the lowermost member of the series being supported by a horizontal member 2 of such main framework, and spaced vertical members 6 integral with or erected on the members 1 to form a vertical grid on which cladding panels 5 are mounted across the wall space between the members of the main framework. As shown, the members 1, of prestressed reinforced concrete, have outwardly projecting key-shaped portions 4 for co-operation with rebates 8, 9 formed on the upper and lower edges of the panels 5 of artificial or natural stone, the panels being bonded to the members by a grouting 10 of cement and by cement 11 to the flanged surrounds 7 for windows. The members 6 are of nailable lightweight concrete or of concrete in which nailable plugs are inserted. The members 1 or 6, or both, may be perforated or hollow or of troughlike section to decrease the weight of the wall assembly and to accommodate heating, water, &c. services.
