Abstract
799,768. Measuring thickness. BINKO, J., BRUNA, V., and SEVCIK, J. Aug. 16, 1955 [Oct. 13, 1954], No. 23584/55. Class 37. Relates to devices for measuring the thickness of non-magnetic layers on magnetic base materials and to such devices wherein the extension of a spring necessary to detach a magnet from a point of contact with the test material indicates coating thickness. In the Figure, rotating a sleeve 9 moves pin 7 along grooves 8 in gauge body 1 so as to extend spring 4 from suspension roller 6 and eventually detach bar magnet 2 from the test coating. A transparent coloured indicator 13 rigidly connected to pin 7 dovetails into groove 14 along outer surface of gauge body 1 and the point of pull-off of magnet 2 is shown by the position of indicator 13 in relation to a coloured scale 15 along the bottom of groove 14. The link 3 between spring 4 and magnet 2 has areas of different colours and the borderline between the two colours disappears at moment of pull off when measuring substantial thicknesses. A sleeve protects the apparatus when not in use.
