A motor reversing switch comprises two sets of contacts, each set having a first pair of fixed elements and a co-operating second pair of elements movable alternately into and out of contact with the respective fixed elements, an operating member having a neutral " off " position and two operating positions, and snap action means between the operating member and the second pair of elements. The fixed contacts 15, 16 are arranged on conductor strips 11, 12 having terminals 52, 54, and the movable contacts 26 ... 29 are mounted on levers 17, 18 pivoted at 19 and connected to terminals 24. Each set comprises a lever 17 or 18, the contacts 26, 27 or 28, 29 carried thereby and the cooperating fixed contacts 15, 16. The operating member comprises a handle 32 pivoted at 33 and connected by U-shaped toggle members 42 and tension springs 45 to the mid-points of levers 17, 18, the bights 41 of members 42 being located in recesses 40 in arms 39 secured to levers 17, 18. Counter-clockwise movement of handle 42 from the Fig. 3 position causes the left-hand spring toggle to move over centre to open contacts 15, 27 and close 16, 26 to give the "off" position shown in Fig. 7. Further movement of the handle in the same direction causes the right-hand spring toggle to go over centre to open contacts 16, 28 and close 15, 29, thereby reversing the connections with respect to Fig. 3. Stops 46 limit movement of the handle, and an arm 49 fixed to the handle cooperates with studs 47 on levers 17, 18 to give positive actuation.
