Abstract

799,087. Automatic guns. SCHWEIZERISCHE INDUSTRIE-GES. May 10, 1956 [May 13, 1955], No. 14583/56. Class 92 An automatic gun has a three part bolt assembly comprising a breech block 2 free to move relatively to a striker 4 and a striker guide block 5 which are urged apart by a spring 9; the breech block houses two locking bodies 14 which can enter recesses 15 in a casing 1 to lock the breech in the closed position, after which further movement of the guide block 5 causes a latch 17 temporarily to connect the breech block to the guide block. The striker 4 moves in cylindrical bores in the breech block and guide block and the relative movement of these three components is limited by a pin 11 on the breech block engaging in a slot 12 in the striker and by flanges 8 and 10 on the striker which abut on the ends of the guide block. On firing, a sear 23 is disengaged from the guide block so that a return spring 6 drives the bolt assembly towards the breech 25 thereby acquiring and loading a cartridge 24 in known manner. The breech block is stopped by the breech face, but the guide block and striker continue forward and arcuate faces 41 on the head of the striker force the locking bodies 14 out into the recesses 13. The striker is stopped when a firing pin 3 strikes the cartridge, but the guide block continues further forward so that the latch 17, urged by a spring 19, engages a catch 22 on the breech block. After firing, recoil force on the breech block is transmitted to the striker 4 which, due to the shapes of its head 27, of the recesses 13 and of the bodies 14, is caused to move rearwards against the springs 6 and 9 so that the shoulder 10 disengages the latch 17 from the catch 22 and the locking bodies are freed. The bolt assembly can then move back for a fresh firing cycle. The locking bodies 14 may be cylinders as in Fig. 4, balls as in Fig. 7 (not shown) or polyhedral plates as in Figs. 5 and 6 (not shown). In the latter instance the faces 41 on the head 27 of the striker must be flat and not arcuate.
