A generator rotor comprises a plurality of permanent magnets separated by laminated pole shoes 11 fixed in a rim 13 of non-magnetic material, e.g. aluminium or zinc alloy, and a steel plate 15 spaced by non- magnetic material from. the magnets and polepieces for connecting the rim to a central hub. As shown, the edge of the plate 15 as well as the other magnetic members is embedded in the cast material.
