Abstract
798,069. Resilient containers and closures therefor. BRADLEY CONTAINER CORPORATION. Jan. 24, 1956 [Feb. 8, 1955], No. 2245/56. Classes 66 and 125(3). A squeeze-to-use container comprising a flexible but self-sustaining body wall 10, Fig. 3, of plastic material of uniform thickness, has a metallic end closure 11 engaging the inner wall surface 13, the adjacent edge 14 of the body and being embedded in the outer wall surface thereof as at 17 to form a tight seal. The skirt 12 of the end closure 11 may be straight or it may have a groove as shown at 31. The closure at the other end of the body may be of similar construction and, in addition, it may include a lever lid or be formed with a threaded neck portion. In Fig. 5 the metal top 11<SP>1</SP> has an opening 25 in which is resiliently held a plug 26 of plastic material having an opening 27 and a threaded neck 28 receiving a cap 29. Instead of a metal closure for the other end, a plastic disc may be fused into position or said other end of the body 10 may terminate in an integral upstanding neck threaded to receive a screw cap. Alternatively an upper open cylindrical end may have its edges brought together to be united by welding or fusing as at 32, Fig. 7a. In Fig. 7a, the skirt 12 of the end closure 11 is shown inclined inwardly to conform with the inclination of the body wall 10. The metal end closures may be covered on their internal faces with a protective film of material such as polyethylene or polyvinyl chloride or a separate plastic film 41, Fig. 6, may be fastened between the metal bottom 11 and the body 10. In Fig. 13, the top metal disc 11<SP>1</SP> which is crimped to the plastic body wall 10, has an opening in which is a plug 50. The plug 50 has circular flanges 51 and 53 engaging the lower and upper faces of the disc 11<SP>1</SP>, and has a hollow portion 54 receiving a cap 55 which has a flexible, integral connection 56 to the flange 53. The metal end closure may be of black, plate; stainless steel, tin plate and aluminium or other sheet metals. Many plastics are quoted as being suitable for the body wall 10 some of which are : polyethylene, polyvinyl chloride, polyvinylidene chloride, polypropylene and polystyrene.
