Abstract
797,246. Magnetic separators. ERZBERGBAU SALZGITTER AKT.-GES. Nov. 21, 1956 [Feb. 16, 1956], No. 35535/56. Class 117 A magnetic separator particularly suitable for treating ores in fine-grained form comprises a roller 4 which is magnetized by a core 1 having an energizing coil 2. A pole-piece 5 has a slot 6 covered by a. plate 7 of non-magnetic material, and a concentration of flux occurs immediately above and below the slot. After travelling through a shoot 8, the material passes in turn through the zones of flux concentration, the weakened flux between these zones permitting a re-arrangement of the particles initially attracted to the roller and allowing any non-magnetic particles which may have been trapped by magnetic particles to be thrown off the roller. A brush may engage the lower part of the roller to assist the removal of the magnetic material. More than one roller and slot may be provided.
