Abstract

724,621. Magnetic separators. SPODIG, H. June 29, 1953, No. 17994/53. Class 117. A U-shaped iron frame 1, 2 forms a closed magnetic circuit with an axle 5 carrying rotatable disc-shaped pole-pieces 8 which project into the airgap between magnets 6 mounted on the frame. Material to be separated is introduced between the pole-discs and magnetic material adhering to the discs is carried round to a neutral zone where it drops off, or is removed by e.g. a brush (not shown). Parts 1, 2 of the frame may be movable to adjust the airgap between the magnets and pole discs. Modifications: (i) a single pole-disc only is used, preferably closer to one magnet than the other, Figs. 1, 2 (not shown); (ii) a further disc of non-magnetic material may be arranged between the two discs 8, Fig. 4 (not shown); (iii) the discs 8 may be made of alternate sectors of magnetic and non-magnetic material to reduce eddy currents, Figs. 5, 6 (not shown) ; (iv) instead of a U-shaped frame, the frame parts 1, 2 may be joined at both ends by an axle carrying a pole disc, Fig. 7 (not shown).
