Abstract

796,868. Laminated fabrics. EVERWEAR CANDLEWICK, Ltd., and GLASS, B. June 8, 1955 [June 18, 1954], No. 18031/54. Class 140. [Also in Group IX] A laminated material consists of a facing layer 2 and a backing 1, both of textile fabric, that have been secured together at spaced intervals and then treated to shrink the backing relatively to the facing, and chenille tufts 3 projecting through the facing layer. The shrinkage, which causes the facing to ruckle, may be effected by washing and drying the composite fabric. The layers may be secured together at spaced lines or points by adhesive, by ordinary stitches, or by the tufting stitches whereby the chenille tufts are applied. The backing layer may be of cotton or spun rayon sheeting while the facing layer, which may be applied to one or both sides of the backing, may be of continuous filament rayon, satin or taffeta, or of silk. When both sides have a facing layer tufts may be provided on one or both sides. The colour of the tufts may differ from that of the facing fabric from which they project. The facing fabric may cover the backing completely or may leave part of the backing exposed.
