Abstract

796,749. Slings for hoisting loads. BRITISH TRANSPORT COMMISSION, and PEARCE, C. R. Feb. 15, 1957 [March 21, 1956], No. 8852/56. Class 78 (4). A stack of timber or the like is drawn together as it is lifted by a sling comprising a lower bearer a formed with links d for connection to snatch blocks e and an upper bearer f formed with bolts g for anchoring the supporting wire cables n which, after passing under the snatch pulley e, are guided by means k on the upper bearer f spaced from the bolt h. The guides k may comprise curved plates as illustrated, or a suitably shaped cup surrounding an eye through which the wire rope passes. Where no spreader is used with the sling, as shown in full lines in Fig. 2, the guides may comprise pulleys p. The guides are carried on arms (Fig. 1) extending ar right angles to the bearer f. The corresponding bearers of two such slings applied to a single stack may be joined. The suspension links d can preferably be folded down to extend horizontally outwards.
