Abstract

795,896. Lifting cradles. VICTROLEC, Ltd. Feb. 1, 1957 [Feb. 7, 1956], No. 3714/56. Class 78 (4). A cradle for lifting a coil of sheet metal has a platform 10 (Fig. 1) on which the coil rests and a post 19 which passes up through the coil and has a lifting eye 25. As illustrated the platform is formed of angle sections I mitred and welded at the corners 12 and joined by angle section cross-members 13 welded to the sides 11 and to shorter angle section members 14, 15. The upper flanges at the ends of the members 13, 14, 15 are cut away so that the vertical flanges can pass beneath the horizontal flanges of the member they are welded to. The post 19 comprises two angle-sections 20 bent into a U form and joined by angle section bridges 28. The eye 25 is bolted to a square plate taking under the upper flanges of the members 20, 28. Both flanges at the lower end of each leg of the post 19 are bent under the adjacent flange of a crossmember 13 or 14. The post 19 tapers upwardly so that several cradles can be nested together.
