Classes 52(2) and 52(4) A vehicle seat has a tubular frame 10 with a seat portion 11 and a back rest 12 hinged thereto at 13, the side members of each frame portion being connected by transverse springs or elastic cords 20 to form a resilient support for a hammocklike base 21 of sponge rubber attached to frames 11, 12 upholstered cushions 23, 24 of sponge rubber being mounted on the hammock 21, the rear squab 24 overlapping the rear edge of squab 23 but being independent thereof so as to allow relative movement as the rake of the back rest is adjusted by means of screws 14, locked by screws 16. In another embodiment, side bolsters are supported on plates 25, 26.
