Abstract
Conductive sheet or strip for use as electrode material in an electric battery or accumulator or in an electrolytic cell or condenser consists of an unwoven fibrous base, reinforcing means for the base, and a porous metallic layer, the reinforcing means comprising parallel fibres, strands, filaments or the like on one face of the base, extending in one direction only and held to the base by the metallic layer which lies on and among the reinforcing means and extends to the base. The metallic layer may consists of spray-deposited particles or sintered particles and may be provided with an electroformed oxide film. In order to enable the electrolyte to penetrate the electrode more readily, the sheet is provided with slits or holes. Specifically, the base is of paper, the reinforcing means is of quartz, fused aluminasilica, or cellulosic cords, and the metallic layer is of lead, zinc, nickel, iron, cadmium, silver, aluminium, magnesium, titanium, tantalum or alloys thereof. Reference is made to sintering titanium powder at 1000 DEG F., and to spraying titanium in an argon atmosphere or in vaccuo.
