Abstract

1504892 Electrolytic impregnation of oxidized Ni WESTERN ELECTRIC CO Inc 14 May 1975 [20 May 1974] 20337/75 HeadingC7B [Also in Division H1] A process for producing a battery electrode comprises forming an oxide film on a porous nickel plaque, wetting the plaque in an acidic solution containing cations of the active substance in the electrode, and then precipitating the cations from the solution into the plaque. The oxide film, which protects the plaque against acidic attack during the active material impregnation process, is formed by heating the plaque in air. After forming the oxide layer the plaques are washed, dried and chemically or electrolytically impregnated with the active material.
