Abstract

795,170. Interferometers. ZEISS-STIFTUNG, C., trading as ZEISS, C. '[Firm of].]. Dec. 21, 1956 [Jan. 10, 1956], No. 38940/56. Class 97(1) To make the interference band of zero order more visible against adjacent fringes in an interferometer using white light, in the ray path is placed a filter of such spectral transmission that the product of the spectral energy of the light source, the spectral sensitivity of the receiver and the spectral transmission of the filter for each wavelength in as wide a range of wavelengths as possible is at least approximately independent of the wavelength of the light. Thus where the receiver is the human eye the filter reduces the intensity of the light in the middle range of the visible spectrum and where the receiver is blue or red sensitive such as a photographic emulsion or a thermo-element light of these wavelengths is reduced. Fig. 1 shows an interferometer for determining the concentration of a gas in which the interference fringes are focused by a lens 9 on a scale 10 viewed through an eyepiece 15, an appropriate filter 21, such as an absorption or interference filter, being located before the light source 1.
