Abstract
794,734. Earth-continuity couplings. BILLING, H.V. July 2, 1956 [April 4, 1955; Sept. 26, 1955], Nos. 9842/55 and 27407/55. Class 38(1). An armour band for connecting the armouring sheaths of two cables or for providing an earth connection at the end of a cable comprises a strip 1 of sheradised steel, one end 4 of which is secured to a ring 6, the strip being tightened round the cable by passing end 5 through the ring 6 and the ends 4, 5 forced apart by a tool (not shown). An extension 8'integral with the strip 1 has ears 9 which are curled over to retain a bridging conductor 10 the connection also being soldered. A split metal ring 7 is inserted under the armouring 2 of the cable and a length 12 of braided copper or other metal between the sheath and strip 1 ensures a good electrical connection. In another embodiment (Fig. 3) the securing means 8, 9 for the bridging conductor is formed integral with the ring 6.
