Abstract
1,044,465. Rod, &c. couplings. CABLE COVERS Ltd. July 31, 1964 [Aug. 3, 1963], No. 30885/63. Heading F2G. [Also in Divisions D1 and H2] A connector for wires, cables, rods and like members comprises sleeves 1 of open-mesh metallic braid which are fitted over the end portions of such members 2, and ferrule 4 which is crimped so that the braid bites into the members and/or the ferrule. In various embodiments the members being connected may be arranged end-to-end as shown, or sideby-side (as in Figs. 4, 5 and 8, none shown), and a single sleeve 1 may be fitted over both members 2. The ferrule may be an integral extension 4 of one of the members 2 (as in Fig. 2, not shown), or may comprise two cooperating tapered portions 4 and 5 (Fig. 8), the portions being externally and internally threaded respectively. The braid sleeve 1 may be stepped or tapered (Fig. 7, not shown), for use on members having stepped or tapered ends (Fig. 6, not shown). The co-operating surfaces of the members, the ferrule and the wires of the braid, may be suitably knurled, roughened or toothed.
