Abstract
794,678. Pipe joints. GOODYEAR TIRE & RUBBER CO. Dec. 28, 1955 [June 3, 1955], No. 37130/55. Class 99(1). A pipe 1, Fig. 1, made of elastomeric material preferably with fabric reinforcement 2 has an integral flange 6 to the outer radial face of which a metal terminal 3 having a sleeve 4 is bonded, e.g., by vulcanization. The flanged pipe end thus formed is secured as by bolts 13 to a flange 8 on a pipe 7, a recess 9 being provided to receive the sleeve 4, and an 0-ring 11 being fitted in a groove in the sleeve or in the flange. In Fig. 2 (not shown), the flange 6 is of reduced diameter so that the bolts 13 do not pass through it, and a band is fitted on and bonded to the flange to prevent deformation thereof; in a modification, Fig. 3 (not shown) coupling is effected by a screwed sleeve. In Fig. 4 (not shown), the retaining-band is integral with the flange 5. Fig. 5 shows two hosepipes 44, 45 having flanges 48, 49 to which metal flanges 50, 51 are bonded, a sleeve 52 on the latter fitting in a recess 53 in the former, and an 0-ring 55 being provided.
