A sealing ring 10 or 17, particularly for use in joints subjected to high temperatures, comprises a hollow annular body filled with a fluid, preferably gas, under super-atmospheric pressure and having a cross-section of generally U-shaped form, e.g. as shown in Fig. 1, or sinuous form, e.g. as shown in Fig. 8. The ring may be made from metal tubing of the required cross-section bent into a circle and, before the ends are joined together, a small quantity of a substance that gives off gas when heated is inserted in the tubing. The ring is then closed and subsequently heated so that the substance produces the necessary pressure within the ring.
