Classes 39(2) and 75(3) An electric torch or flashlight comprises a metal case 2 with an insulating disc 12 mounted within the head 8 and provided with a central contact member 16 which engages a battery terminal 18 below the disc, there being also a pair of contac. arms 22, 24 mounted on the disc and in engagement with the central contact 16 at opposite sides thereof for association with the central contacts of bulbs 34, 36 which are mounted in opaque reflector shaped portions 26, 28 of a sheet-metal element mounted in the head of the case 2 so that they project light laterally through the sides of a transparent or translucent housing 48, e.g. of translucent plastic, the emission of light axially of the casing being effected by a bulb 40 mounted in a reflector 38 behind a plastic lens 50 within an opening in the top of the housing 48 and connected to the terminal 18 of the battery 20 by a spring-pressed rod 44 extending upwardly from the contact 16. The rod 44 is insulated from the reflector portions 26, 28. A single sliding switch 56, Fig. 2, on the outside of the case operates to light the pair of bulbs 34. 36 by bringing a slidable contact strip 58 into engagement with the reflector portion 26, a similar switch 52 and contact strip 54 being provided for the bulb 40. In the example a pair of arms 60 pivoted at opposite sides of the case 2 can be opened out to serve as legs for supporting the torch upon a table, &c.
