793,630. Electric measuring systems. IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES, Ltd. Dec. 2, 1955 [Dec. 24, 1954], No. 37348/54. Class 40 (1). Apparatus for measuring the density of a liquid flowing in a pipe 1 (Fig. 1) comprises a float 2 suspended on a balance beam 3 with a counterbalance 4, the float carrying a soft iron wire 6 located inside a coil system 9 comprising an A.C.-energized primary winding 21 (Fig. 2) and two similar secondary windings 22, 23, whereby the density of the liquid controls the vertical position of the wire 26, which can be determined by measuring the relative inductance of the secondary windings 22, 23 in a bridge circuit, the unbalance voltage at 11, 16, after compensation by a separate bridge having a temperature-sensitive resistor arm 14 located in the liquid, being fed to a recording meter. The average position of the beam 3 is coaxial with the pipe 1, and the wire 6 is hinged to the float 2 so as to move vertically. Specification 761,880 is referred to.
