In a spring wheel in which the rim 3 is mounted on the hub 1 through two annular resilient spring elements, e.g. rubber rings 8 and 9 respectively, disposed on opposite sides of annular guide means 6 permitting radial movement of the rim relative to the hub while substantially preventing relative axial movement thereof, the diameter of the spring element 8 is smaller than the diameter of the spring element 9, and in the space between the element 8 and the rim 3 there is disposed at least a part of a brake element, e.g. the brake drum 10. In the example -the rubber rings 8, 9 are of frusto-conical form and of axial width much greater than their radial thicknesses, which are in inverse proportion to the diameters of the rings. The outer edges of the rings are vulcanized to discs 2 which are bolted to the outer faces of the hub, the inner edges being vulcanized to discs 13 which are bolted to supporting discs 4 and 5 located on opposite sides of the annular guide plate 6 and each detachably bolted to the inside of the rim 3. The guide plate 6, which may be either connected to the hub 1 or machined from it, is provided on its outer surface with a cover 6a of a material having frictional properties that allow it to slide easily upon and relative to the discs 4 and 5. The cover 6a may be a surface layer on opposite sides of the annular guide 6, or a separate part fitted and secured to it as shown. A resilient ring 12 may be provided around the periphery of the guide 6 to act as an end stop. Cooling ribs 11 are provided on the brake drum.
