Abstract
792,484. Capacitor-type level gauges. ARO EQUIPMENT CORPORATION. Dec. 8, 1955, No. 35243/55. Class 37. A'capacitor used to indicate the level of liquid, particularly liquid that must be maintained at high-pressure or low temperature, e.g. a liquefied gas, in a container, has three parallel plates similar in shape to the vertical cross-section of the container, to prevent inaccuracy of indicator readings due to distortion of capacitor plates or to non-linearity of the cross-sectional shape of the container. As shown, the capacitor is mounted within an ellipsoidal container which is constructed in two halves and is enclosed in an evacuated shell. Projections 30 on the periphery of the outer plates 16, 20 are welded to the interior of one half of the container before the second half is welded to the first half. The central plate 18 is connected to an oscillator circuit including a recording instrument by a conductor 37 introduced into the container, preferably through a plug 31 (Fig. 3), which is screwed into the bottom of the container. The plates are insulated from one another by dielectric spacer elements 22, 24 (Fig. 4) or similar devices.
