Abstract

791,003. Cycle spring-suspensions. MANNESMANN AKT.-GES. March 22, 1955 [March 29, 1954], No. 8302/55. Class 136(3) A wheel suspension for a vehicle comprises two levers 1, 2, at least one of which constitutes a leaf spring, rigidly interconnected at one end and carrying a wheel mounting 3 near the interconnection and separate pivotal anchorages 8, 9 on the vehicle for the levers 1, 2 at their other ends which anchorages permit angular displacement of the levers in the plane of deflection of the suspension. As shown in Fig. 1, the lever 1 is constituted by a leaf spring and the lever 2 may be substantially flexible. the anchorage for the lever 1 is formed by a pad 9 which engages in a slot 10 in the spade 5 of a fork prong 6. The levers 1, 2 are connected by a bracket 4 which is integral with the wheel mounting lug 3. In a modification the levers may be formed by the two limbs of a single spring rod bent into.hair pin shape, the lower rod carrying the wheel mounting. In a further modification shown in Fig. 4 the limbs 31, 32 of a spring loop are connected py respective pivot pins 38a, 38b to the spade 35 of the fork prong 36. The lug 33 for mounting the wheel axle is carried by a straight offset 40 connecting the limbs 31, 32. Alternatively the lug 33 may form the connecting element for. two separate curved spring rods. Both limbs 31, 32 may function as combined leaf springs and radius arms or one of the limbs may be substantially inflexible.
