Abstract

790,391. Making laminated windshields. PITTSBURGH PLATE GLASS CO. Feb. 6, 1956 [April 12, 1955], No. 3605/56. Addition to 771,071. Class 87(2). [Also in Groups XX and XXXII] The Specification describes an improved method and apparatus for forming a thermoplastic windshield interlayer having an upper transverse coloured band with a horizontal cut-off line between the coloured and non- coloured parts as described in the parent Specification. Several, e.g., five, sheets may be clamped at their ends between pivoted bars 28, 30 and supported at their top edge between bars 16. The bars are mounted in a frame 11, and then moved to the position shown in Fig. 2 to stretch the layers to the shape shown in dotted lines. The frame is placed vertically in an oven, where the layers take up the position shown in full lines, and the tension stresses are relieved. The layers are then allowed to cool, before removal from the frame.
