Abstract
790,298. Jet propulsion plant. POWER JETS (RESEARCH & DEVELOPMENT), Ltd. Aug. 25, 1954 [Sept. 7, 1953], No. 24721/53. Class 110 (3). [Also in Group XXXIII] A spanwise series of gas turbine engines 5 are mounted between the spans of an aircraft wing, and each is connected by jet pipes 6 to a plurality of nozzles 7. The depth of each nozzle is about 4-5 per cent of the wing chord, and the width about 0.3 to 1 per cent. The pitch of the nozzles is approximately equal to the depth. In Fig. 4, a series of nozzles 14 below the nozzles 7 is supplied with air from a low-pressure stage of the compressor 5a. A slot 10a in the wing is also fed through a manifold 13 with air from the compressor 5a or a separate compressor driven by some or all of the gas turbines.
