Abstract

790,139. Hydraulic shock absorbers. KONING, A. A. DE, and KONING, K. K. K. DE. June 22, 1955 [June 30, 1954], No. 18117/55. Class 108(3) A telescopic hydraulic shock absorber comprises a piston rod 7 and guide 3, and unobstructed air vent passages 15 circumferentially spaced in the guide and opening into a space in the end part of the cylinder 1 where air accumulates. In the construction shown, the passages 15 are formed in an extension 3a of polygonal cross-section. In operation, when pressure develops in the cylinder 1, the oil stream flowing between the rod 7 and the guide 3, sets up a pressure differential in the passages 15 which carries air from the periphery of the cylinder at the outer ends of the passages 15. In a modified construction (Figs. 1 and 2, not shown), the extension 3a is of circular cross-section. The passages 15 may be inclined to the piston rod axis instead of being radial as shown.
