Abstract

789,966. Moulding rubber rings &c. DUNLOP RUBBER CO., Ltd. Sept. 3, 1954, No. 20330/56. Divided out of 789,965. Class 87(2). Relates to a method of moulding articles by feeding a continuous strip S of rubber or other plastic material between open pairs of opposed co-operating dies 18, 19 carried by a wheel which moves the dies, one pair after another, to a position opposite the strip, the dies being closed successively under pressure on the strip to blank out and deposit in the die cavities pieces P of rubber &c.: as shown the pieces are rings. According to the invention a central portion 56 of the rubber &c. deposited in the die cavity of each pair of dies is removed therefrom, while the dies remain closed, to form a clean aperture through the article, the portion 56 being forced through the hollow interior of one of the dies (as shown, the stationary die 19) to the exterior thereof before it becomes cured. (The die 18 reciprocates horizontally to and from die 19). On closure of the dies the part 56 is forced into the bore 55 of die 19. Then hot compressed air supplied through bores 65, 62 in die 18 blows the part 56 through die 19, as shown in Fig. 6, the part being collected and used again to form strip S.
