Class 65(2) [Also in Group XXXVII] Suspension means for a pendulum or other oscillatory mass comprises a cylinder with straps wrapped completely or partly round its surface, at least one end of each strap being secured to a support member on which the the cylinder is confined to roll in a direction at right angles to its axis so that the straps are wound on and off the cylinder. The oscillatory mass may be formed by or. attached to the cylinder and the suspension means may be used in a code transmitter. A steel cylinder 4 carrying compound pendulum weights 9 has two beryllium-copper straps 10 wrapped around it with their ends 11 anchored to a non-magnetic table 1 and their ends 12 resiliently secured to the table 1 and tensioned by a spring 22. Extensions 5 of the cylinder 4 engage stops 17 in side brackets 15 to limit its rolling movement. When the cylinder is in its equilibrium position (i.e. with pendulum vertical) electric contacts 20, 21 are closed and cause an electromagnet 14 to be energized so attracting the cylinder which rolls and causes a projection 6 thereof to open the contacts 20, 21. The cylinder is then returned towards the equilibrum position by the weights 9. The surface 1 may be concave or replaced by rails. The straps 10 may be made of nylon or multi-strand wire.
