Abstract
954,669. Winding bobbins. IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. Aug. 9, 1961 [Aug. 30, 1960], No. 29864/60. Heading D1J. An apparatus for winding yarn packages by means of a yarn guide mounted on a reciprocating traversing bar is so constructed that at the reversal of the traverse bar the guide continues to move at substantially undiminished speed for at least a substantial part of the time during which the traversing bar is slowing down and then regaining speed in the opposite direction. As shown the yarn guide 1 is in an arm 2 which is free to pivot between two stops 3, 3'on pivots 5, 5, the pivots 5, 5 and the stops 3, 3 being rigidly mounted on the traversing bar by bolts extending through the holes 6. The arm 2 is normally held in its mid position between the stops 3, 3 by resilient means 4. The means 4 may be a spring made of high hysteresis rubber. In operation as the traverse bar is slowing down just prior to reversal, the arm 2 continues to move with substantially undiminished speed at the same time pivoting about one of the pivots 5 until it contacts one of the stops 3 by which time reversal of the traverse bar is complete and the whole unit moves off in the reverse direction at substantially full speed while the arm 2 is brought back to the mid position by the resilient means 4. According to a second construction the yarn guide is free to slide between two stops that are rigidly mounted on the traversing bar. In this construction separate means must be used to ensure that little or no bounce occurs at reversal of the yarn guide and such means may be in the form of high hysteresis rubber stops; a bar magnet mounted on the guide; a hollow section on the guide containing steel shot or a small weight surrounded by a viscous medium; or a catch system similar in operation to a clock escapement.
