Abstract

Aspirating -apparatus. -An apparatus for rarefying gases comprises a chamber D for connection to a receptacle containing the gas to be rarefied, two conduits A, B extending downwardly from the chamber and constituting with the chamber a siphon serving by the descent of liquid in the conduit B to draw liquid up the other conduit into the chamber, and an induction head E having holes or pipes e communicating with the interior of the chamber so that gas is entrained into the descending liquid. The apparatus may be built into a dam, water at the higher level communicating with the conduit A. Alternatively a pump may be provided to circulate the liquid. If the natural head is not sufficient to start the apparatus, apertures b below the natural high level may be provided giving communication between the conduits A, B under the control of the operator. Preferably, the head E floats on the liquid.
