Abstract
789,640. Contacting gases with liquids. JACIR, J. Feb. 3, 1956 [Dec. 17, 1955], No. 3514/56. Class 55 (2). [Also in Group XIII] Liquid reaching the top of a tower 10 of an apparatus for contacting a gas and a liquid is channelled into troughs 13 from which it falls on to distributing units 14 formed from spaced strips and having inclined guide surfaces 15 to deflect the liquid falling between two strips towards one such strip whereafter the liquid, divided into drops or jets over the whole width of the apparatus, passes through dispersion stages each formed by inclined parallel strips 16, the strips of two consecutive stages extending in directions substantially at right-angles to one another. Air or other gaseous fluid is caused to flow upwardly through the tower 10 by a fan 23 and deflector blades 18 which have folded lower edges provided with spaced draining apertures for the liquid. The strips 16 of each dispersion stage are secured by cement, mastic or a plastic substance, to channel-shaped members 27 supported on cross-pieces 29. The dispersion stages are slid on to supports 25 through apertures in the tower. The latter may be made from sheet-metal or concrete while the distributing units 14 are of sheet-metal or other rigid or plastic material.
