Abstract
788,696. Transformers. SMIT & CO.'S TRANSFORMATOREN-FABRIEK N.V., W. March 5, 1956 [March 15, 1955], No. 6905/56. Class 38 (2). A laminated magnetic core structure of the type in which each of the leg and yoke members comprise at least two juxtaposed longitudinally extending laminations, the laminations in the leg members and those in at least the upper yoke member being spaced apart by cooling gaps is characterized in that one of the laminations in an intermediate leg member extends to the upper surface of the upper yoke member. In Figs. 1, 2, the lamination 3 extends to the upper surface of the upper yoke and also extends to the lower surface of the lower yoke whilst in Figs. 3, 4 one lamination 21 of the intermediate leg extends to the upper surface of the upper yoke whereas the adjacent lamination extends to the lower surface of the lower yoke. The cooling gaps between the laminations do not extend into the regions occupied by the, joints between the yoke members and the intermediate leg member. In a core construction using magnetically oriented material mitre joints as shown in Figs 1, 2 are used whilst in constructions using non-oriented material square joints, as shown in Figs. 3, 4, are used. A further cooling gap 30 (Fig. 7) extending at right-angles to the surface of the laminations may be provided between the laminations in the upper part of the upper yoke member. In one construction according to the invention certain of the laminations need to have a greater width than the remainder.
