Abstract

Sewing threads composed of fibres of regenerated cellulose or cellulose derivatives are lubricated with a liquid organopolysiloxane in which the organic radicals are monovalent hydrocarbon radicals attached to the silicon atoms through silicon-carbon linkages. The cellulose derivative fibres may be of methyl-, ethyl-, propyl- or benzyl-cellulose or cellulose acetate, propionate or butyrate. The hydrocarbon radicals in the polysiloxane may be methyl, ethyl, octadecyl, vinyl, allyl, hexeyl, cyclohexyl, cyclohexenyl, phenyl, tolyl, xenyl, naphthyl or benzyl radicals. The polysiloxanes may be composed of R2SiO or R3SiO0.5 units, or copolymers of these siloxanes may be employed; the liquid may also contain monoorganosiloxane units and SiO2 units. The viscosity of the siloxane may range from that of a thin liquid to that of a soluble gum and the compound may be applied in solution in petroleum ether, toluene or benzene. In examples polymers of dimethylsiloxane, phenylmethylsiloxane, ethylmethylsiloxane, octadecylmethylsiloxane, vinylmethylsiloxane and vinylphenylsiloxane, copolymers of dimethylsiloxane and trimethylsiloxane, diethylsiloxane, monomethylsiloxane and phenyldimethyl siloxane, and of trimethyl siloxane and SiO2 are employed.
