787,585. Siphons; valves. CZERMAK, L. Nov. 16, 1954 [Nov. 21, 1953], No. 33131/54. Classes 69 (1) and 135. A shut-off valve for a siphon comprising a piston 25, Fig. 3, displaceable in a cylinder 24 provided with a suction line 26 through which liquid continuously flows when the valve is opened includes a liquid-carrying tube 1 connected to the piston over which a sleeve valve member 6 slides. As shown inFig. 1, the sleeve 6 is secured to a liner 12 slidable over a mouthpiece 2 secured to the tube 1. The mouthpiece is formed with inclined bores 4 and flexible lips 7, 8, 9 engageable with the liner bore, a further flexible lip 10 being formed on a conical nose-cap 15 secured to the mouthpiece. Stop rings 21, 23 limit the movement of the sleeve in its opening direction and engagement between the mouthpiece and the stop ring 21 limits its movement in the closing direction. When the valve is closed liquid pressure in the tube 1 urges the lips 8, 10 into effective sealing engagement with the liner bore. All parts of the valve may be made of thermoplastic material, e.g. polyvinylchloride and the liner 12 may be made integral with the sleeve 6. Other materials from which the mouthpiece may be made are polyacrylates, other polyamides or similar polycondensates or other highly-elastic and form-retaining plastics such as silicone rubber. In a modification, a mouthring 29, Fig. 2, is secured to the tube 1 and this coacts with flexible lips 9, 10 formed respectively on a nose-cap 15 and an adaptor 38 secured to the sleeve 6. Inclined holes 40 are formed in the adaptor. To open or close the valve the sleeve is first rotated to bring projections 33 thereon into alignment with spaces 34 on projecting rings 31, 32 formed on the tube 1 whence the sleeve may be slid along the tube into its new position and thence again rotated to lock it in this position. The mouthring is formed with an external lip 43 to provide a further seal.
