Abstract
787,496. Extruding. COMPTOIR INDUSTRIEL D'ETIRAGE ET PROFILAGE DE METAUX. April 13, 1956 [April 20, 1955], No. 11370/56. Class 83 (4). In the hot-extrusion of metals, there is placed immediately behind the heated billet 5 a lubricating mass 7 of a substance melting wholly or partly at the extrusion temperature whilst remaining viscous, followed by a cold disc 6 of a malleable metal. The disc 6 allows the entire billet to be extruded through the die 2 and at the end of extrusion this disc has been deformed to the shape of the rear face of the die and its holder 2<SP>1</SP>, Fig. 2 (not shown). The lubricant may be a glass, enamel, salt or slag in the form of fibre, multi-cellular, or sintered or agglomerated powder. Certain phosphates or borates may be used. The malleable disc may be of aluminium, copper or their alloys. A specific example is given for the extrusion of tubes from 18/8 stainless steel billets using a wad 7 of glass fibre followed by a disc 6 of aluminium. Specifications 607,285 and 714,653 are referred to.
