Abstract
864,182. Powder clutches for winding drums. COMPAGNIE DES ATELIERS ET FORGES DE LA LOIRE. June 12, 1959 [June 14, 1958], No. 20198/59. Class 78 (5). A constantly-driven uni-directional electric motor 1 drives winch drum 4 via electromagnetic powder clutch 2 and gearing 3 so as to raise the load hook 6. The hook 6 is made sufficiently heavy so that the hook descends when the powder clutch is suitably controlled by rheostat 13, despite the fact that the motor continues to rotate in the hoisting direction. The drum 4 drives a synchrotransmitter 8 to indicate the number of revolutions and therefore the load position at 10, and also drives a tachometergenerator 9 to indicate the load speed at 11. A safety brake 12 of the no-volt release type brakes the load if the current fails.
