Abstract

786,394. Regulating. NAAMLOOZE VENNOOTSCHAP DE BATAAFSCHE PETROLEUM MAATSCHAPPIJ. Dec. 22, 1955 [Dec. 24, 1954], No. 36765/55. Class 7(6) To ensure at all engine loads a constant rich mixture composition at the end of the compression period in an auxliary combustion chamber 3 having ignition means 25, the pressure of supercharging air delivered weakly carburetted at 6 directly to the main combustion chamber 1 acts to control the supply of fuel or air for the chamber 3. As shown, fuel only is supplied to the chamber 3, during the first half of the compression stroke, under the control of a pump 24 the operating cam 21 of which is slidable by a diaphragm 18 subjected to the delivery pressure of an exhaust turbine-driven super-charger 12 which may have a throttling valve 15 on its inlet or outlet side or a blow-off valve on its outlet side. A stop may be provided to ensure a small fuel injection into the chamber 3 when there is little or no supercharging. Instead of fuel, rich mixture may be supplied to the chamber 3, the air component being branched off from the output line of the supercharger 12 by a distributing valve controlled similarly to the pump 24. The invention is applicable to fourstroke engines or to two-stroke opposedpiston engines, and to single or multicylinder engines. Specification 722,044 is referred to.
