Abstract
786,331. Mine roof supports. COAL INDUSTRY (PATENTS), Ltd. Feb. 5, 1953 [Feb. 5. 1952; Nov. 3, 1952], Nos. 3052/52 and 27679/52. Class 20(2) A mine roof support comprises two sets of props A1, B1 and A2, B2, Figs. 1 and 2, the props in each set being connected by roof bars Cl, C2 and floor bars D1, D2 respectively and the two sets being interconnected by linkages L, P and F. G between the roof and floor bars to allow them to be advanced relatively to one another. In order to allow the props to be inclined to the roof and floor bars and to maintain the props normally vertical the props engage the roof and floor bars by curved surfaces 112, Fig. 3, and rubber bushes 115 are arranged between and bonded to these parts. The props are extensible and retractable and a jack E connected between the floor bars is adapted to move the sets forward alternately by taking its abutments on the set extended between the floor and the roof set and moving the retracted set. The pit props and the jack E are controlled by an hydraulic system, Fig. 4, comprising a delayed selector valve 5 which connects the appropriate end of the jack E to the high pressure duct when the pressure drops in one set of props, e.g. A1, B1 which causes valves 1, 2 to open influencing the valve 5 through pipes 3, 4. Restrictions in the end ports of the valve 5 delay operation of the jack to allow the props to drop clear of the roof. At the end of its movement the piston rod of the jack E engages a mechanical trip 18 which recloses the release valves 1, 2 of the props A1, B1 and opens a valve 19 to connect the props to the high pressure duct to extend them against the roof and the pressure in the props acts through ducts 23-25. on a piston 26 to operate release valves 30, 31 for the other set of props A2, B2 to continue the cycle of operations. A trip 36 operated by a mining machine may actuate a rod 35 to open the valves 1, 2 so that the cycle is repeated automatically at intervals. Specification 786,332 is referred to.
