Abstract

785,365. Change-speed gearing. HUMBER, Ltd. Nov. 4, 1955 [Aug. 5, 1954], No. 22844/54. Class 80 (2). A gear lever for motor vehicles, incorporating a switch for disengaging the clutch prior to moving the gears, comprises a gearshifting part 10 into which extends a rod 12 provided with an actuating knob 13 and rockable in all directions about a support 15 within the part 10. The rod is normally centralized within the part 10 by a thin resilient brass tube 16 or helical spring mounted at its outer end in the end of the part 10 by an insulating sleeve 17 and supported at its inner end on the rod 12 by an insulating bush 18. The outer end of the tube 16 has an inwardly-extending flange 20 forming an annular contact surface which is normally spaced from the rod 12 but which contacts with the latter when the knob 13 is actuated. The rod 12 is also slidable axially in the bush 18 to disengage a stop or latch restricting the movement of the lever. Specification 614,658 is referred to.
