Abstract

784,361. Thermal switches; switch cases; actuation of switches. Aug. 29, 1955 [Dec. 27, 1954], No. 24749/55. Class 38 (5). The casing of a thermostat comprises three separable elements 10, 48, 74 containing, respectively, the thermal element 24, the moving contact 58 and mechanism of the switch, and the fixed contacts 82, each element consisting of a rectangular box open on certain sides. In assembling, the element 54 slides within the element 10 till projections 66 engage slots 46. The element 74 is then moved upwards till holes 84 come into line with holes 68 and 44 in the other two elements, and the whole is then secured by screws 88 passing through the holes. The thermal element consists of bulb 28 connected by a tube to a capsule or diaphragm 24, the position of which can be adjusted by a knob 36. In the assembled structure the movable part 30 of the diaphragm bears against a lever 64 carried by a rod 90 and connected to the contact arm 56, 58, pivoted at 60, by over-centre springs 62 which normally bias the lever 64 towards the part 30. A stop 70 (Fig. 1) arrests contact 58 in the detached position.
