Abstract
784,348. Valves. BALDELLI, G. May 27, 1955 [June 28, 1954], No. 15335/55. Class 135. In a liquid metering device comprising a block 1 having a two-diameter axial bore therein which is open at one end and closed at the other end, an inlet opening into the side wall of the smaller diameter portion of the bore and an outlet from the lower end of the same bore portion, a cylindrical body 9 movable in the bore and having a helicoidal channel 10 on its surface with a cross-section that increases in the direction of flow, and the channel being in communication with the outlet, means spaced from the channel are provided for moving the body 9 axially to bring at will any zone of the channel 10 into register with the inlet. The upper portion of the body 9 has a single, as shown, or double external thread 14 of the same pitch as the channel 10 whilst the upper threaded portion of the body 9 is received in a gland 7 screwed into the block 1 with a packing 8 interposed between the latter and the inner end of the gland, which packing surrounds the body 9. The latter is formed with a knob 15 having a pointer which co-operates with a scale on top of the block; the minimum cross-section of the groove occurs at the top thereof. The valve is shown in a circuit for introducing metered quantities of a sterilizer into the suction duct of a pump supplying water, the valve being connected to a tank by a pipe to which a liquid level indicator is connected; when the tank is disconnected from the valve the indicator may be used to check the reading on the scale of the device with that of the indicator.
