Abstract

783,576. Door operating appliances; hinges and pivots. GENERAL MOTORS CORPORATION; Sect. 8, 1955 [Sept. 23, 1954], No. 25734/55. Classes 65(1) and 65(2) A bonnet is pivoted to a car 10 by a pair of spring-biased hinges each comprising two arms 16, 18 pivoted one below the other at 20, 22 to a support 12 and having intermeshing gear segments 24, 26, the arm 18 being pivoted at 30 to a bracket 28, welded to the bonnet, and the arm 16 being connected to the bracket 28 by a link 32. A spring 46 is connected between the arms 16, 18 so as to hold the arm 18 down when the bonnet is closed but passes to the other side of the pivot 22 as the bonnet is opened to exert a hold-open force on the arms.
