Classes 29 and 64(3) A refrigerator cabinet for cooling milk comprises a refrigerated chamber for chilled water one of the faces of which chamber is used as a heat exchanger for the milk which flows over it as a thin film and a cooled chamber, the arrangement being such that milk can flow directly into containers situated in the cooled chamber. The evaporators 14 to 16 of a compression refrigeration system are immersed in brine in chamber 1, the refrigerant passing through a compressor 7, condenser 8. silica gel filters 11 and an expansion valve 12 controlled by thermostat 19, while the compressor is controlled by thermostat 17. The chamber 1 is partitioned by sheet metal and filled with water circulated around the evaporator, on which ice is allowed to form by means of a pump 23. The corrugated sheet 2 forms the front of this chamber and has a perforated conduit 27 at its upper edge into which milk is poured by means of the filler 6; after streaming over the corrugated sheet the milk is collected into a lower conduit, pouring into milk churns positioned beneath in chamber 3. The filler 6 (Fig. 8), is provided with a filter 38, held in position by a cap 40 having holes in the side, a float 44 ensures an even flow of milk. The compartment 5 has a common wall with chamber 1 and may be provided with an evaporator independent of evaporators 14 to 16 and with a drip pan built into the wall.
