Abstract

782,181. Bladed turbine rotors. SECORD, L. C., and PURVIS, J. T. Sept. 27, 1954, No. 27828/54. Class 110 (3). Blades 11 are mounted in a turbine rotor disc 14 by their roots 16 which are engaged in axially-directed serrated slots 12 formed in the periphery of the disc. One end of each blade root is formed with a projecting portion 17 of L-section, the open side of the section facing radially outwardly, and one face of the rotor disc between the blade-receiving slots 12 is formed with projections 19 of L-section, the open sides of the sections facing radially inwardly. The troughs afforded by the projections on the blade roots and on the rotor disc are in circumferential alignment and a wire 20 is threaded through the troughs whereby the blades are locked against movement in the axial direction. In a second embodiment, Fig. 3, each blade is locked by an individual wire of arcuate form 21 having a short bent end portion 21b, the plain end of each wire abutting the bent end of the adjacent wire. The end of one wire is bent in the radial outward direction and engages a hole 22 formed in the axiallyextending portion of one of the projections on the face of the rotor disc. This embodiment enables a single blade to be removed without releasing all the other blades. The troughs in the projections on the face of the rotor disc support the wire against the effect of centrifugal force, but the troughs of the projections on the blade roots and rotor disc face could face in the opposite directions. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 712,112.
