Abstract

781,684. Extruding. FUCHS, H. J. Jan. 27, 1956 [Feb. 12, 1955], No. 2799/56. Class 83 (4). In the extrusion of aluminium or aluminium alloy billets, the residue remaining in the container g is reduced and the quality of the extruded workpiece is increased by using a two-part steel press plate b, c into which the billet metal tends to diffuse thereby reducing any transverse flow of metal across the surface of the plate, the residue being subsequently removed from the plate in two stages. The plate comprises a main part b secured rigidly to the ram a and having a conical projection b<SP>1</SP> over which is fitted a steel ring c. After extrusion the die d and die holder e are separated from the container g by further forward movement of the ram. The die is then held and the ram with the part b are withdrawn leaving the ring c adhering to the residue. The ring is then removed from the residue.
