Abstract
781,458. Lamps MEINERS OPTICAL DEVICES, Ltd. Oct. 11, 1954 [Oct. 15, 1953; Dec. 3, 1953], Nos. 28477/53 and 33700/53. Class 75(4) [Also in Group IX] An illuminator adapted to be mounted on a spinning or twisting frame so as to project a beam along the frame to illum- ,inate the threads comprises a casing' which houses a source of light having a brightness of at least 2000 stilb and emitting short wave rays in the blue and blue/green range of the spectrum. and a dioptric system located between the source and an outlet in the casing and projecting a beam which is either parallel or converges at a point not less than twenty-five feet from the source. The illuminator may produce four parallel beams. The illuminator shown has two dioptric systems to provide two parallel beams one for each side of a double-sided frame, each system comprising an apertured plate 26 in a trunk 24 extending from a central housing 20 for a mercury vapour discharge lamp 22 and a bi-convex lens 30 in one face of the trunk. A plane mirror 28 in the trunk reflects the light from the aperture through 90 degrees on to the lens. Alternatively the lens may be located in the trunk between the apertured plate and the plane mirror and the light emitted through a glass plate in an aperture in the trunk. A plano-convex or a bi-convex collector lens may be located between the apertured plate and the lens 30. A further plane mirror may be located outside the trunk to reflect the light therefrom through 90 degrees. The light from the apertured plate may be reflected through 180 degrees on to the lens 30 by a prism within the trunk. The lenses 30 and the plane mirrors 28 may be mounted on members of square cross section adapted to slide on and off the ends of the trunks whereby the direction of the emitted beams relative to the casing can be altered. The illuminator is mounted at or above one end of the frame and the beams may be reflected back along the frame by reflectors at the other end thereof.
