Abstract
781,014. Sheep shears. HUDSON, R. L. March 24, 1955 [March 24, 1954], No. 8664/55. Class 131 A high stubble comb for sheep shears, use of which leaves the pelt unridged, comprises teeth projecting from the front edge of a body portion and a runner dependent from each tooth, the lowermost parts of the runners lying on an arcuate line concave to the plane of shear formed by the tops of the teeth. As shown, the upper surfaces of comb teeth 24, projecting forwardly for equal distances from a body 12, form a flat plane of shear PS on which a cutter 14 reciprocates, the free ends of the comb and cutter teeth lying on arcs AB, CD, respectively, and the lowermost parts of the runners 32 being of convex rocker shape and lying on an arc EF. Due to the horizontal and vertical offset of the runners (see Fig. 3) the line PT represents the only common plane to which the runners are tangent but ridging of the pelt does not take place even when the angle between the comb and the hide is decreased since the hide is stretched in chordal relation between the end teeth nor when the angle is increased because the arc CD is of. less radius than the arc AB. In a modification the plane of shear is curved convexly and the runners are of equal height.
